2 min read

A flexible English course should let you choose when to start, how long to study and how many hours to take each week. This guide shows the options at St. George International College (SGIC) in Toronto, and the same options apply at SGIC Vancouver.

››› 1. Start on any Monday

You do not have to wait for a semester to begin. New students can start General English every Monday. Check the SGIC calendar for the exact start dates.

››› 2. Study for as long as you need

General English is available for short and long stays, from 1 to 3 weeks up to 32 weeks or more. Each level lasts 8 weeks, and a grade of B (70%) or higher moves you to the next level.

››› 3. Choose your weekly hours

Intensive: 17.5 hours per week (30 lessons), a good fit if you want time for work, activities or exploring the city.

Full Time Intensive: 25 hours per week (40 lessons), for faster progress.

X-Intensive: 25 hours per week (40 lessons) plus a 1:1 tutor for extra personal practice.

››› 4. Study online if you cannot travel yet

General English Online is a full-time course with 20 lessons per week, Monday to Friday (Friday is asynchronous). It also starts every Monday.

››› 5. Special programs for a specific goal

If you have a clear goal, choose a 4-week or 8-week special program (25 hours per week): IELTS or TOEFL iBT preparation, Business English, English for Medicine, English for Professionals or Speaking for Success.
