Learn English in Vancouver: Level-Based Group Classes and Speaking Programs (2026)
If you want to speak English with confidence in Vancouver, you need two things: classes that match your level and a lot of speaking practice. This guide explains how St. George International College (SGIC) Vancouver organizes its classes and which programs focus on speaking.
››› Level-based group classes
New students take an oral and written placement test, then join a class at their level. General English runs from Starter to Advanced. Each level lasts 8 weeks, and a grade of B (70%) or higher moves you to the next level. New students can start every Monday.
Intensity options: Intensive is 17.5 hours per week (30 lessons). Full Time Intensive is 25 hours per week (40 lessons). X-Intensive is also 25 hours per week and adds a 1:1 tutor for extra speaking practice.
››› Speaking for Success (SSP)
SSP is a special program for students who want to improve their speaking skills. It runs 25 hours per week (40 lessons) for 4 or 8 weeks.
››› Where the campus is
SGIC Vancouver is at 605 Robson St., Suite 200, in downtown Vancouver, a few minutes on foot from Granville and Vancouver City Centre SkyTrain stations. Being downtown makes it easy to practice English every day at shops, cafes and events.
Reviews: the Vancouver campus is rated 4.9 out of 5 on Google from more than 200 reviews, as of September 2026.
››› 4 tips to speak more in Vancouver
1. Speak every day. Ten minutes a day with classmates, your homestay family or a cafe staff member beats one long session a week.
2. Join school activities. Events and student activities give you real conversations outside class.
3. Learn phrases for daily life. SkyTrain, grocery stores, cafes and asking for help.
4. Do not wait for perfect grammar. Mistakes are normal. Speaking is how you improve.
